Painted Stars #1

from $25.00

I normally seek to photograph the night sky in the absence of moonlight, but in this case I had gone to the Painted Hills of Eastern Oregon at the full moon. Waiting until just a couple hours before sunrise allowed me to photograph this unique landscape illuminated by the setting moon, with the stars above still vibrant in the sky. The human visual system is not really capable of registering much color in the dark, although the camera certainly can capture what’s there. The real catch is deciding what the overall color scheme should look like. In this case I went with a cooler blue look; in “Painted Stars #2” I make some subtle changes to the color temperature to warm up the scene the way you might recall this place in daytime.
